Smart Career Move

So where does one's career go after being a finalist on Canadian Idol, well if you're Jacob Hoggard you end up having your band play at an award show. Now don't get all weird on me, I'm not some big Hoggard fan. Personally I wasn't impressed by his song style at all. No the reason I happen to have stumbled upon the latest phase of JH's career has everything to do with my own job search. Recently the adult film company Digital Playground expressed some interest in me possibly doing some DVD cover work for them. In anticipation of them liking my work I've been checking out the covers of some of their, and other companies latest films just to see what the current styles are like. Well, as it turns out one of Digital Playgrounds titles "Pirates" was a big winner at the 23rd Annual Adult Video Awards in Las Vegas this past weekend, and that's right, little Jacob Hoggard and his buddies in Hedley were part of the entertainment for the evening. Its actually pretty great exposure (no pun intended) for the band, and certainly helps toss the squeaky clean image of the Idol franchise aside. I'm not sure if there is a precedent for bands being linked with the adult film industry and then going on to super stardom, but at the very least it may be the first step to a regular Vegas gig, like Celine, and who can argue how cool she is? Okay, maybe that's a bad example. I'll just stop now.

I mentioned this on my show on Sunday. As soon as I get the clip converted to mp3 I'll send it to you.

Maybe I could become Q104's entertainment correspondent in Hollywood. Of course most of that reporting would "nope, didn't see anyone famous this week either." Although not this weekend, but the weekend before at Mel's Diner (the one from American Graffiti) I did see John Tesh and Connie Selica. She's actually very attractive even in person and he's monsterously tall.
